Frequently Asked Questions
Clear, authoritative guidance on Indian immigration regulations, FRRO compliance, and advisory services.
FRRO Registration & Form C
What is Form C and why is it essential?
Form C is an official statutory declaration required under the Registration of Foreigners Act. Any hotel, guest house, serviced apartment, or private landlord accommodating a foreign national in India must submit Form C online within 24 hours of arrival. Without a verified Form C reference, you cannot complete FRRO registration.
Can I register with the FRRO before arriving in India?
No. FRRO registration requires your actual Indian immigration entry stamp, date of entry, flight number, port of arrival, and current local address verification in India via Form C.
What is the difference between FRRO and FRO?
FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) operates in major metro jurisdictions such as Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai headed by senior IPS officers. In non-metro districts, the local District Superintendent of Police functions as the FRO (Foreigners Registration Officer).
Visa Validity & Extensions
How many times can an Employment Visa be extended?
Employment visas can generally be extended year-on-year for up to five years, subject to continuous employment, salary compliance (minimum USD 25,000 annual threshold or applicable exceptions), and income tax filings in India.
What should I do if my visa expires tomorrow?
Contact our emergency legal desk immediately (+91 8590146960). Filing an extension or exit permit prior to the expiry timestamp prevents your file from being marked as an unauthorized overstay.
Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)
Does holding an OCI card give me Indian voting rights?
No. OCI cardholders are foreign citizens. OCI status provides multiple-entry, lifelong visa privileges and economic parity with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), but does not confer political rights, the right to vote, or eligibility for constitutional government posts.
How long does OCI processing generally take?
Standard OCI processing takes approximately 6 to 10 weeks from the date of biometric submission and formal acceptance by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
